When patients seek body contouring procedures, a common question tends to arise: “Do I need liposuction or a tummy tuck?” Unfortunately, there is no simple answer to this question, because each patient has their own unique concerns and aesthetic goals. Depending on the patient’s desired outcome and overall health, I can help them select the procedure that is most appropriate for them. For example, a woman who is looking to eliminate loose skin and tighten her abdominal muscles as part of a mommy makeover will likely benefit more from a tummy tuck. However, if muscle tone and skin laxity are not a concern, liposuction is typically the best choice.
It is also important to note that some individuals may benefit most from a combination of the two procedures. Depending on the case, I might recommend liposuction as the initial procedure. Then, once the patient sees their results, they can decide if they feel they need further intervention. In many cases, liposuction can provide patients with the look they desire, and there is no need to move forward with a secondary, more invasive procedure.
