Atlanta Plastic Surgeon Supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month by Racing to the Finish Line!

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Dr. Lintner kicked off the month in style by attending a Breast Cancer fundraiser with his wife and family. This was no average fundraiser, no black ties here…this was through the Corvette Association. At this fundraiser, held at Atlanta Motor Speedway, you buy laps on the track and go as fast as you feel comfortable. Dr. Lintner, Liz and her entire family caravanned down to the track and had a wonderful time. Top speeds were 135 mph (Liz’s brother, in a 93 Corvette), 124 mph (Liz’s Dad), 114 mph was Dr. Lintner in his Nissan 350Z and Liz came in at 100 mph.

Atlanta Plastic Surgery Body Contouring Procedures

DR. THOMAS LINTNER: As far as body contouring goes, we look at several different options and we try to fix only what’s broken so to speak. If you’re only fat and you have good quality skin and great muscles, you don’t need those fixed and so we tell a patient they might be better with liposuction. The advantages are small incisions and short downtime.

In patients who are going to end up with redundant skin, we move into the skin removal operations and that runs from a panniculectomy to a tummy tuck. The different is that in a panniculectomy you’re removing skin and fat only and in a tummy tuck, you’re removing skin, fat and then tightening the muscles. Subsequently, the recovery time is a lot longer for muscle tightening. We find that many of our patients don’t need a full tummy tuck, they need a less procedure which means lesser pain, lesser recovery and lesser costs substantially.

Most plastic surgeons look at only two options, liposuction and tummy tuck, we run the gamut for patients, we individualize the care so they get a better result and only the result they need.

Atlanta Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Importance

DR. THOMAS LINTNER: The first most common myth is that all surgeons who practice cosmetic surgery are of equal training. You should pick a board certified plastic surgeon because they have standards of training that they have to fill and patient safety is important, knowledge is important, and the results are generally better with a board certified plastic surgeon.

Another common myth of plastic surgery is that the fat returns after liposuction. That’s not necessarily true, because that’s assuming failure is your goal. Your goal is to diet and exercise and liposuction. It’s not good to do one without the others. The other thing is that those fat cells are removed permanently. It will change the distribution of the fat, but those fat cells are gone.

The third myth of plastic surgery is that all patients who have had facial surgery are very visible and that’s not necessarily true. Most patients that we do, we try to maintain a natural balanced look so that you can’t tell they had a procedure done. They might look refreshed, they might look less tired, they might look younger, but you won’t be able to put your finger on why they look that way and that all surgery is not visible.

DR. THOMAS LINTNER: Basically what we do in this practice is focus on three areas. We focus mainly on the breasts, both from the cosmetic aspect to the reconstructive aspect. We also focus on the body as far as body contouring in general. I generally consider liposuction, tummy tuck, lift procedures like breast lift, thigh lift, arm lift, as body contouring and that’s usually excising skin and fat and you can do them separate or together. And then we consider the face as sort of another arena. We take care of facial problems from cosmetic facial procedures, brow lifts, blepharoplasty, which is eye lifts, face lifts. We consider skin care to be a cornerstone to treatment of the face, injectables; we focus on all aspects of plastic surgery.
