The Southeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons recently hosted their 28th Annual Breast Surgery Symposium for plastic surgery in Atlanta. Atlanta plastic surgeon Dr. Tom Lintner says the recent PIP implant scare in Europe was a hot topic at the conference, and adds that he has always gone to great lengths to reassure his patients of the safety of 3rd generation gel breast implants in Atlanta, which virtually all of his patients prefer.

Board-certified Atlanta plastic surgeon Dr. Tom Lintner says following recent attendance at the 28th Annual Breast Surgery Symposium for the Southeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, he is even more confident of the safety of U.S.-made breast implants, despite recalls of implants manufactured by the French company Poly Implant Prothese (PIP). While PIP, recently shut down for substituting industrial grade silicone for medical grade silicone, distributed implants in several countries across the world, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) never approved their use in the United States. Dr. Lintner says because the PIP implants were never FDA-approved, patients who have had breast surgery in the U.S. from a board-certified plastic surgeon should not be concerned for their safety.

Backed by the latest patient reported outcome (PRO) metrics and statistical resources from the recent breast surgery conference, Dr. Lintner says he hopes to reiterate the safety of breast augmentation in Atlanta with silicone implants. In addition, he says nearly all (99%) of his patients choose gel implants for breast augmentation procedures due to their ability to produce a more natural look and feel. The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) confirms Dr. Lintner’s observations, reporting that 62% of breast augmentation procedures used silicone implants in 2010. Dr. Lintner also adds that because of their natural look and feel, patients seeking more subtle enhancements often find silicone implants the better solution for their cosmetic goals.

With such an overwhelming majority of silicone implant use, Dr. Lintner says the FDA and other medical affiliates have conducted extensive research to verify the safety and effectiveness of gel implants. He says patients who take the necessary steps to consult with an experienced and qualified plastic surgeon have nothing to fear when it comes to breast augmentation. “When patients are in need of reassurance in the consultation, I tell them I would use silicone gel implants in any family member because I am that confident in the product.”

Regardless of whether patients choose silicone implants or saline for a breast augmentation procedure, Dr. Lintner stresses the importance of consulting a plastic surgeon who is board-certified in plastic surgery and dedicated to each individual patient’s needs. He says through proper research and the skilled hands of a qualified surgeon, patients can enjoy the benefits of safe and effective aesthetic enhancement. “Do your homework, choose a board certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon who is comfortable using silicone implants, and then get your follow-up. I will follow my patients for the life of my practice to make sure that these implants behave accordingly.”

According to the latest statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), cosmetic surgical procedures increased by 2% to over 1.6 million performed in 2010. Dr. Thomas Lintner, a plastic surgeon in Atlanta, says the recent popularity of mommy makeover procedures has contributed to the continued growth of cosmetic procedures at his practice as more women are seeking to enhance their post-baby bodies. He also adds that as most children have just returned to school this month, many patients find this is the perfect time to undergo a procedure designed to give them confidence and a positive outlook on their appearance as a mother.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) reports in its latest study that 13.1 million cosmetic procedures were performed in 2010, a 5% increase from 2009. Dr. Thomas Lintner says he has also seen an increase in demand for plastic surgery in Atlanta, particularly in procedures associated with mommy makeovers. Typically combining breast augmentation, breast lift, or tummy tuck procedures, Dr. Lintner says mommy makeovers are a way for women to reclaim their pre-baby look that increases in popularity as children go back to school and many mothers have more time on their hands for recovery. He adds that a significant number of patients are choosing to have multiple procedures such as liposuction or breast augmentation in Atlanta in hopes of reversing some of the negative aesthetic effects of childbirth. Statistics from the latest ASPS study confirm that procedures typically included in mommy makeovers are among the most popular surgical procedures performed by plastic surgeons across the country.

Breast augmentation was the most popular procedure performed during 2010 according to the recent ASPS study, with 296,000 procedures performed, and increased by 2% from 2009. Dr. Lintner says breast enhancement is also one of most popular procedures included in a mommy makeover, along with tummy tuck and breast implants in Atlanta, which also showed significant increases as reported by the ASPS study. He also says that these numbers are likely to continue to grow as patients with children in school begin to settle into the school year routine.

Regardless of when they are seeking an enhancement, Dr. Lintner says patients looking for a complete mommy makeover should be sure to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon before making any decisions about a procedure. As the popularity of these enhancements increases among women who have had children, Dr. Lintner adds that choosing an experienced surgeon becomes even more important for achieving the best results and ensuring a healthy recovery. “The women that I meet with daily are not looking for perfection, they just want to look their best, and still be a wonderful, active mother. They are looking for balance and proportion and are hoping to address concerns that can’t be remedied in the gym. A mommy makeover can restore a little self confidence that sometimes is lost after having multiple children. That confidence spills over into all aspects of their lives and can really make a positive difference.”

Dr. Thomas Lintner is a board-certified plastic surgeon in Atlanta. He is announcing the addition of an innovative radio-frequency technology that will enable him and his Advanced Aesthetic Surgery team to provide their patients with the latest in noninvasive cosmetic enhancement. The Exilis radio-frequency device provides patients with a safe, effective, and affordable alternative to surgical treatments for facial rejuvenation and body contouring in Atlanta.

According to the most recent statistics from the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), more than 7.7 million nonsurgical cosmetic procedures were performed in 2010. At his Atlanta plastic surgery practice, Dr. Thomas Lintner says keeping up with the latest trends in aesthetic enhancement allows him to provide the safest and most effective treatments for his patients. He adds that this dedication to the cutting-edge of plastic surgery technology is the reason behind the recent adoption of the Exilis radio-frequency device, as he begins to offer non-surgical alternatives to procedures such as liposuction and the facelift in Atlanta.

BTL is a leading manufacturer of medical and aesthetic equipment, and the developer of the Exilis Laser. The noninvasive nature of the newly fashioned Radio Frequency (RF) aesthetic treatment technology allows Dr. Lintner to perform noninvasive procedures in the shortest time possible, while maintaining his commitment to patient safety and comfort and providing him maximum control. Through extensive research and clinical tests, the Exilis RF technology has been shown to achieve the desired aesthetic goals without downtime, discomfort or concern of damage to internal structures.

Dr. Lintner says patient demand for a noninvasive alternative to traditional methods of surgical procedures has been clearly demonstrated by the ASAPS study. However, he stresses the popularity of developing trends should only lead to implementation after the proper channels have been addressed. “My goal as a surgeon is to always provide the safest, most cost effective, and efficacious treatment options to my patients. I will not try something new simply because it is new. It has been awhile since I have seen a new product or device that is this promising. The Exilis device takes the best parts of treatment options of the past and puts them all together in one machine. I believe that anyone with skin that is 25+ can benefit from this device. It is not a surgical result, but I personally am having a hard time staying off the treatment table, it’s that impressive.”

In addition to being certified by the American Board of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Atlanta plastic surgeon Dr. Thomas Lintner recently discussed several important factors to address when considering cosmetic enhancement surgery, and added that the basics for choosing a plastic surgeon require answers to several questions throughout the initial consultation process.

Atlanta Plastic Surgeon Dr. Lintner

Dr. Lintner says choosing a board-certified plastic surgeon is important because it means the doctor graduated from an accredited medical school. Once they have achieved a medical degree, the doctors are required to complete a combination of general, plastic, and reconstructive surgery training, and then must pass written and oral exams administered by the Board.

Another important factor to consider when choosing a surgeon is whether they are a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Dr. Lintner says this is of extreme importance because of the amount of experience and continuing education that is required. However in the end, whether he is performing liposuction or breast augmentation in Atlanta, Dr. Lintner says conducting research when choosing a plastic surgeon will ensure your best interests are addressed.

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Dr. Lintner kicked off the month in style by attending a Breast Cancer fundraiser with his wife and family. This was no average fundraiser, no black ties here…this was through the Corvette Association. At this fundraiser, held at Atlanta Motor Speedway, you buy laps on the track and go as fast as you feel comfortable. Dr. Lintner, Liz and her entire family caravanned down to the track and had a wonderful time. Top speeds were 135 mph (Liz’s brother, in a 93 Corvette), 124 mph (Liz’s Dad), 114 mph was Dr. Lintner in his Nissan 350Z and Liz came in at 100 mph.
Please remember how important your breast health is by doing monthly self-breast exams, getting annual breast exams and doing mammograms yearly after 40 (or as your doctor suggests).

We are really excited to announce that for patients with Mentor Memory Gel Silicone implants placed since May 1, 2009 going forward will receive up to $3500 financial assistance with operating room and anesthesia fees in the event that they require surgery to replace a deflated implant due to failure or defection in the implant.

What this means for you—you already get a lifetime replacement of BOTH implants, not just one implant like some companies, free of charge; AND during the first 10 years, you get not $2400 (the original enhanced warranty) but $3500…that is how sure Mentor is that they have the best product available for breast augmentation.

We are very proud to offer this product to our patients.
